OSS Contributions

It's hard to overestimate the role of the open-source software (OSS) in modern software development. Personally I mostly was involved in commercial projects but I can't remember any of them which doesn't rely on OSS to some extent.

I found contribution to OSS to be a great way of doing "pro bono" work and giving back to wonderful communities of OSS projects.
